FALL IN CHANDLER, ARIZONA is the perfect season to experience everything this city has to offer. With the scorching temperatures now behind us, it’s a great time to get out and explore, as outdoor festivals and fun, family-oriented activities are aplenty. Experience a Western adventure with a trip back in time at Rawhide Western Town and Steakhouse, an 1880s-style steakhouse and saloon. Bring your kiddos, and they can hop on the 1880s-era Butterfield stagecoach, ride burros and watch the Rawhide Roughriders’ stunt show. November is time for the annual Chandler Chuck Wagon Cook-Off . This culinary competition has volunteers that work out of real chuck wagons to prepare five savory courses. Judges select the winner, and this year event organizers have added a youth competition. Arrive early, as this event sells out.

Open year-round, the Zelma Basha Salmeri Gallery of Western and American Art is a contemporary corporate gallery. It features more than 3,000 pieces of art in mediums including oil paintings, watercolors, wood-turned bowls, basketry, pottery, Kachinas and jewelry. Admission is free.

No Western adventure is complete without a horseback ride. Koli Equestrian Center offers novice and advanced riders, ages 6 and older, guided trail rides and private tours.

Chandler Fashion Center is a shopper’s paradise with more than 180 stores, restaurants and a 20-screen Harkins movie theatre. Also visit the Phoenix Premium Outlets or The Shoppes at Casa Paloma, both outdoor malls. If you’re on the hunt for an Arizona souvenir, stop at specialty shop Sibley’s West in downtown Chandler.
